Merryweather Turntable Ladder on Maudslay Regent III half-cab chassis assembled by Maudslay in May 1952.  The appliance was made for the Canberra Fire Brigade, although it never actually saw service there.  The vehicle ended up in Sydney with the NSW Fire Brigades, entering service in 1954 at Sydney HQ Station.  It was superceded here in 1969 by a TGM chassied Merryweather (a twin went to Canberra at the same time as this city's first TL), and after overhaul went to Newcastle were it stayed until 1988, then it came to the Museum.
In some states of Australia, fire appliances were not required to be registered or to carry registration plates.  This applied to NSW Fire Brigades' vehicles up until 1984, when all vehicles in the fleet were allocated registration numbers, but the plates weren't actually issued until 1990; the Regent III was allocated number FBY-802, but it never got to carry the plate.  It was simply known by its fleet number 2TL.
